Monetization through the freemium model

Awesome article looking at the F2P vs P2P monetization strategies for games.  Sadly, we are often looking for simple solutions to complex problems.  This is one of those cases.  Some games work quite well with the freemium model, but it is hard to switch midstream.  People don’t like to get charged for something that their friends got for free.  Further, if designers & developers don’t plan the in-app purchases into the game, they often feel contrived, and then you just go to another game.  Game producers have to be deliberate, otherwise they may seem like profiteers instead of visionaries.
