Attention and Immersion – Ben Abraham

I just watched a video by Ben Abraham about using the term Attention vs. the pervasive term used in VR and gaming: Immersion. He addresses the ambiguity of the term immersion, and I agree wholeheartedly. My research interests include the human experience of computer generated /computer mediated scenarios/settings/ and interactions. For the sake of clarity, attention does not actually describe how I would define immersion, but it does address the outcome of users experiencing flow and connection. Abraham mentions ameliorating attention fatigue with differentiated stimuli in nature and in games. To take this to the next level, this clearly connects with existing research that highlights the potential of games to be used to ameliorate attention fatigue in our world. Abrahams perspective demonstrates why this is so effective.
